Friday September 16th,
7:45am until 9:00am
Finish Line: Canadian Museum of Civilization (near the river along the NCC recreational pathway)
On the morning of the launch for Sustainable Transportation Week, come join us at the finish line to cheer 3 contestants competing through rush hour “to get to work” – one on bike, one on bus, and the other in a car.
This friendly contest provides an entertaining demonstration of the time, cost and number of people transported by each mode of transportation. Who will get there the fastest in rush hour?
The Challenge will be followed by the official Launch of the Week. All are welcome to join in
Our Predictions:
- If The Cyclist arrives first, they will have spent $0 maintaining cardio-vascular health while traveling in the fresh air through Ottawa along the Rideau Canal. We predict this contestant will arrive safely across the Alexandra Bridge to Gatineau and on to the National Capital Commission recreational pathway behind the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
- If The Bus Passengers arrive first, each person will have effectively reduced their daily carbon emissions by 20 pounds, or more than 4,800 pounds in a year (see endnote), as well as arrive more alert and less frustrated than The Car Driver, with more time for relaxing, reading or laughing with fellow passengers during their commute.
- If The Car Driver arrives first (during rush hour), we’ll be surprised... unfortunately they will have paid approximately $13 for parking plus the cost of the gas, insurance, and stress.
